Boy tests positive for H5N1 avian flu in Cambodia
(MENAFN) A 3.5-year-old boy from Kratie province in northeast Cambodia has tested positive for H5N1 avian influenza, bringing the total number of cases in the country to three in 2025, according to a remark released by the Ministry of Health on Sunday.
The boy was hospitalized in critical condition, exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. He is currently under intensive medical care, with a team of doctors closely monitoring his condition.
"According to queries, the patient's family raised chickens and about five chickens had died, as some others were sick, and his family members cooked the dead poultry for food," the remark read.
Health officials are now investigating the origin of the infection and conducting screenings for suspected cases or individuals who may have had contact with the patient. These measures aim to prevent a potential spread of the disease within the community.
